Hans Schwarzbrand
Product Details
The piece
Hans is not an off-the-shelf decorative item. He is a piece of handcrafted metal that smells of the harbor – even when hanging on a living room wall, standing in the garden, or guarding the entrance to a restaurant.
Each Hans is individually created in the workshop. Cut, bent, welded, finished. The result is an object with weight, character, and a surface you’ll want to look at.
Surface
Blackening involves heating the steel and then treating it with oil. This creates a deep black, matte surface with a shimmer reminiscent of old blacksmith's work. No paint, no coating – just heat, oil, and craftsmanship.
Each surface is unique. Small variations in tone and texture are not flaws, but rather a sign of genuine handcraft.
Care instructions: Blackening is primarily an aesthetic refinement and not a permanent corrosion protection. Hans – Blackened feels most at home indoors. If permanently placed outdoors in a humid environment, the surface may oxidize over time. Occasional oiling maintains its appearance.
Personalization
The curved stainless steel plate bears your desired text – a boat name, a date, a name, a place. The letters are burned out of the stainless steel with a flame. No engraving, no sticker. The lettering is part of the material.
Highly polished brass nuts and a natural 36mm rope complete the picture.
Workmanship
All connections are fully welded using the TIG process. This is the most precise welding process available – even, clean seams without compromise. No piece leaves the workshop that does not meet this standard.
